Weston Bay Yacht Club Ltd
Newsletter January 2007

There is a now a library of nautical books in place at the clubhouse. This, together with other items, was kindly donated to us by Frank Roe, a member of our club for many years. The collection covers all nautical subjects of general interest, building boats, navigation, stories and humour. There are over eighty books for your perusal and I am sure you will find something of interest there.
For all those sailing in and out of the river Axe we have noted quite a bit of silting up especially near the mouth. It will pay to keep an eye on the echo sounder particularly if you are deep draught.

We have had some very successful social events and generally over subscribed leading to some disappointed members but we hope that the new dinner and dance venue will be large enough but it will be first come ,first served so don't delay in returning your ticket application form.

Racing during the season was well attended by both classes at first but class 1 seemed to disappear during the summer, leaving the bay for class 2
During July and August five of our boats cruised to Ireland. A great time was had by all and ports visited included Ilfracombe, Milford Haven, Kilmore Quay, Waterford, Tenby and Swansea. A cruise will be planned for next year and it would be nice to increase the size of our fleet. Tell Pat Jensen if you are interested 01934 629019

During our recent AGM a sub committee was recruited to consider the provision of new lifting and boat handling equipment on Uphill Wharf, we will let you know the outcome at the licence holder's annual meeting if nor before.
If you have e-mail please let the club know by sending it to
jensen712@btinternet.com we can use it to send you information.

Wishing you a good 2007 sailing season from the officers and committee of Weston Bay Yacht Club Ltd.
