The following notes are intended to help visitors to the bay and have been put together by the President of Weston Bay Yacht Club and intended to help and encourage those who have never been there. They also include information on the changes which have occurred in recent years and useful information for all visitors.

Welcome to Weston Bay
The bay extends between Brean down and Bridgewater Bay to the south and Birnbeck (or the old pier as it is known locally) and Sand Bay to the north. The town of Weston super Mare and Knightstone Harbour are at the northern end of the long sandy beach and Uphill and the River Axe, where our club is located, to the south.
As you probably know, the tides in this area are now the highest in the world (since the Canadians built their barrage in the Bay of Fundy, Canada ) and must be considered before you approach the Bay. Weston Bay Yacht Club - which for many years was at Knightstone - recently moved south to what was the Pegasus and then the Axe dinghy sailing club clubhouse, which is located on the beach overlooking the River Axe. To find it by road follow signs from Weston to Uphill then onto the beach, turn left (tide permitting) then along the sands. During the summer 'grocles' (aka 'groclings', 'emits' or 'holiday makers') are charged for this privilege - but passes are available from the author or via the club on request. The approach by sea is far more interesting !.
For any one requiring the services of a boat yard or chandlers there is one in Uphill but access is limited by the tide. To find it by road go into Uphill, turn right at The Dolphin, which takes you towards the beach and it's through the flood gates on your left.
